Obituary

Harvey Glen Pheifer of Bow, Washington passed away peacefully with his family at his side on July 29, 2021 at Silverado Memory Care Center in Bellingham, WA. He was 91 years old. Harvey was born in Ferndale, WA to Henry and Gertie Pfeiffer in 1930. He grew up in Ferndale, WA with his 5 siblings: Orville, Elsie, Wyona, Roy, and Jeannie. He graduated from Ferndale High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956 in the Korean War.

While working in the Los Angeles area he met the love of his life, Yvonne Marquie. They were married in California in 1958. They moved to Bellingham, WA where they settled and had 4 children: Janet, Karen, Paul, and Tom. By himself he built a house on Lake Whatcom where the family lived for 23 years.

Harvey was an ironworker by trade for 36 years working on many types of structures until his retirement in 1985. He purchased land in Bow WA, where he built a small cabin that was surrounded by tall trees, a creek that wandered through the property and a sense of peace.

He loved to build things, and he loved to work on his property. He could build anything and fix everything. He built a sawmill and was able to mill his own lumber. He cut firewood and worked on building projects for many friends and family, never asking anything in return.

Harvey was a quiet man of few words who loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

After 52 years of marriage Yvonne passed away in 2010. He remarried in 2011 to Joyce Gienger.

Harvey is survived by his 4 children Janet Pheifer, Karen Kenlan (Chuck), Paul Pheifer (Rhonda), and Tom Pheifer; grandchildren Ashley Perigo (Joel), and Jacob Pheifer (Alisa); great-grandchildren Serenity, Levi, and Hunter Perigo, Ty, and Sophie Pheifer, and current wife, Joyce Gienger.

The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff of Silverado Memory Care Center and Whatcom Hospice. Memorial donations can be made to Whatcom Hospice Foundation.

We are lucky enough to now steward Harvey’s and Yvonne’s beautiful Bow property. It’s only been a year, but everyday we uncover another artifact of Harvey’s ingenuity and Yvonne’s passion for forest gardening. It’s an understatement to say that they left really big (and really clever) shoes to fill. We feel honored and only hope that we can make them proud. Sending so much love to the Pheifer family.
