Obituary

Hamen Perry Ides was a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. He brought light and laughter into the room with his big smile and heartfelt laugh. He was truly happy to visit with you and share stories and ask about your life. Hamen lived to help others. He really enjoyed community outreach in the areas of public health and wanted tribal communities to focus on educating each other on health issues that we as native communities are more prone to. He believed in prevention first and foremost but was an avid supporter of recovery as he was proudly in recovery for over 35 years. In his early years, he pursued his dream of ballet and actually performed in the Seattle Ballet’s performance of the Nut Cracker. After living large in the big city, he returned to Makah and followed his family footsteps towards the ocean and began commercial fishing with his dad. Hamen suffered from health issues that eventually ended his fishing career and moved to Lummi to be with his mom. He soon focused on non profit work for public health which led him to becoming part of the Lummi Health Commission. He proudly served on the Commission for many years.

Hamen is Survived by Mother- Maxine Ellen Ides, Brother- John Buster and Ellen Ides, Nephews-John Ides Jr and Andrew Ides, Nieces- Carmen Ides and Heather Greene and 17 great nephews and nieces as well as 7 great great nephews and nieces.

He was Preceded in death by Father- John Hamen Ides and Sister-Kathleen Ides.

Service for Hamen Ides will be held on Thursday September 5, 2024 at 10:30 at the Wexliem Community Building – Lummi Nation.
