Obituary

Gregory Wesley Perry, Jr., age 27, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018 in Ferndale, Washington.

Gregory was a man with a heart and smile almost as big as he was. Beloved does not begin to express the depth of feeling his family and friends felt for him. Over time his friends became family and his family became friends. He was a surrogate brother and son to many. His uncle Chris says, “He was inquisitive, intelligent and thoughtful. That you had to dig beneath Gregory’s big and quiet exterior to see these qualities made him all the more precious and special.” These sentiments were echoed by everyone around him. He had a generous spirit, and was kind and welcoming to all. He was a prankster whose laughter was infectious and “he truly had his Dad’s sense of humor,” says his aunt Amy. Come winter, friends and family knew there would be no snowmen at the Perry household, only an array of snowmen parts.

Gregory loved spending time with his family and friends and was the person who brought people together – no one was ever excluded. He loved swimming and tubing on the river, Fourth of July celebrations and fireworks, food and backyard BBQs. Gregory was a special person who made those around him feel special in return.

His mother, Lisa, beautifully shares, “Gregory was a kind, caring, funny, intelligent, and gentle giant. We could talk about everything!! From wildlife to science to philosophy to the smell of a flower and how it affected the daily moment of your life. He gave the most amazing and all-encompassing hugs. Then he whispered outrageous anecdotes you would belly laugh about. He made you feel safe and amused at the same time. Bubba was stubborn and would do things for himself, not asking for help. He would not accept help until you offered it at the ‘right time.’ He was intent on ‘Didi do it’ when he was little. You had to sit back and watch him figure out the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of what he wanted to accomplish. He kept this attitude and insatiable curiosity that got him into some difficult spots but ultimately led him to accomplish what he set his mind to.”

Born in Lancaster, California, Gregory moved to the Blaine-Birch Bay area in Washington with his family in 1994. He played youth football and basketball through the Blaine Boys and Girls Club and graduated from Blaine High School. He was a guy who loved video games, movies, and computers. He earned his associate degree from Whatcom Community College in computer science. He found his faith in God in adulthood and became a member of the Truth Tabernacle Church where he attended church regularly.

Gregory will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

He is preceded in death by his father Gregory Wesley Perry, Sr., grandfathers Ward S. Perry and Don Jensen, great-grandfather Harry Adamson, and cousin Aaron Spencer.

He leaves behind his extensive family including mother Lisa Perry, step-father Frank Dwight; his sisters Ariane Perry, Christine Perry, Sarah Warren, Alissa Blume, and Karlina Van Pelt; his brothers Jessie Dwight and Josh Douglas; niece Alyna Murray; uncles Chris Spannos and Jeff Jenkins; aunts Ashley Adamson, Harpreet Kaur Paul, and Amy Perry Cannon; cousin Seva Kaur Spannos; grandmothers Carol Spannos, Peggy Adamson, Bonnie Cook New; grandfather Larry Adamson; great-grandmothers Charlotte Adamson and Hazel Young; as well as his many friends.

  1. He can only be physically gone but never the life lived and the memories shared. I’ve been blessed knowing the Perry family and know they’ll stay strong through this tough time.

  2. Jason Warren says:

  3. I worked with Greg . He was a great man . He helped me in many ways . You will be missed . Our condolences.

  4. You were always my teddy bear. If I was upset or scared you would comfort me. I will always remember the bad thunder storm and I drove as fast as I could to your house and you sat by me the whole time. You are the best brother anyone could ask for. I love you so much!

  5. Greg will be missed by all who got the chance to know him, that laugh others have talked about and that upturned brow with that skeptical look he could give you. He was our computer program and recording editor at church. His work station was next to the mixing board and he most always had a Red Bull and a Nutrageous candy bar sometimes making a mess. In many ways he reminded me of his dad who I worked with for several years. The stories he told of Greg Jr. The time he ran into mom and dads room saying someone broke in during the night and stole all the cereal which his dad hid in the closet and the pre game platter of nachos that he used a whole brick of cheese. Many more stories. You will be missed as much as your Dad my friend
