Gregory (Greg) Scott Honrud, 64, passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at his home in Bellingham, WA.
Greg is survived by his brother Bruce Honrud of Seattle, WA, his uncle Darrell Honrud (Lynn) of Bellingham, WA, his dog Rico, and numerous cousins and friends. He was proceeded in death by his father M. Lyle Honrud, his mother Donna A. Honrud, his grandmother Gertrude Honrud, his great-grandmother Hunt, and his beloved dog Max.
Greg was born on February 27, 1959 in Seattle, WA. He grew up on his family’s strawberry and dairy farm in Custer, WA. In 1977, he graduated from Ferndale High School, and went on to begin his career as a commercial fisherman and welder. Greg spent many summers and falls commercial fishing in Alaska and out on the Puget Sound, this was a time in his life when he met and made some of his closest friends.
Greg was quite the inventor and fabricator when it came to his welding skills. Many have said he was the best self-taught welder around. He designed and made his own welding helmet and an arched, mounted-support frame used to hold a basketball backboard. He was very proud of these final products. I am so sorry to hear of Greg’s passing. We were classmates and it was always fun to reconnect with him at reunions.
