Obituary
Gordon Garlick passed away on September 14, 2014. He was born on May 28, 1920 to Edward and Mary (Lopaz) on the family homestead in the Mt. View area. He was the fourth of five children. Gordon attended Ferndale Schools, graduating in 1938. He married classmate Marian V. Connery of Ferndale on May 28, 1941.
Gordon graduated from Washington State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1944. He practiced in the Lynden area, Portland area, then overseas to Karachi and Lahore Pakistan in the 50’s, and in Bangalore India in the 60″s. He returned to retire in Bellingham.
Gordon and his wife Marian resided on Lake Whatcom since 1987 in a house they designed and had built. Gordon stayed active for many years and enjoyed activities on the lake. He built a steamboat named “Thrice” – for he did everything three times to make prefect-as anyone that knew him, knew was necessary.
Gordon was a member of the Bellingham Yacht Club for years, then later to the Northwest Steam Boat Society.
Gordon was preceded in death by Marian. They were married 63 years.
He is survived by his sister Theda and eight living nephews and nieces.
The family sends a special thank you to all the loving Doctors, Nurses and Caregivers for their care of Gordon over the years, especially the Hospice House in his last few days.

Gordon was the one who could keep the conversation going. Many a family dinners the talk was long and interesting with lots of points of view which most always revolved around politics. His love for the beach and all the water sports was second to none. What a good life you had. May you rest in peace.

Good Morning Family: I was one of the luckiest people in the world to have lived next door to Gordon and His Bride for those many years. While having a purified water drink with him as he was telling me of the time he spent picking out EVERY PIECE of wood in his new home, thinking he was kidding “NOPE” that says it all he was wonderful neighbor and friend for all these years. RIP Gordon you were a great person.

Kim, Lynea, Greg & families- We were so sorry to hear of Gordon’s passing. He was a good friend of ours for many years. We enjoyed both Marian & Gordon and our times with them. We have great memories of our talks over dinner or lunch. Gordon also enjoyed having our grand kids out for a swim. He loved to sit and watch them splashing away! We will miss him for sure! RIP Gordon!

My husband, Ernie, and I purchased Garlick Veterinary Hospital, Lynden, in June 1950. That was the beginning of a successful practice and a segue into what is now Kulshan Veterinary Hospital, a large group practice. Thanks, Gordon!
