Obituary

Glen Allen Friedl, age 89, passed away in Bellingham, WA on February 26, 2022, just shy of his 90th birthday. He was born on March 23, 1932, to Adolf and Alma Friedl, in Pueblo, CO. Glen married the love of his life, Betty Leone Flynn in Yuma AZ on June 20, 1953. Together they had 5 children. Always a devoted husband and father, Glen and Betty were married for 67 years. After serving his country in the Marines, he had a successful 57-year career as a State Farm Insurance Agent. Glen’s work ethic was inspirational and continues with his children and grandchildren.

A man of integrity and honesty, Glen loved people and cherished time with family and friends: whether it was fishing with his son, barbequing, boating or vacationing at the ocean. Playful and fun, with a deep kindness, he had a knack for making you feel special, particularly with the silly endearing nicknames he gave everyone. He was big fan of all types of cars, and never kept one long before he was on to the next. Ever the optimist, Glen was forever reassuring Betty that things were going to be great – and they were. Together they traveled the world, always class act dancers wherever they went.

He was preceded in death by Betty, on May 2, 2021. He was also predeceased by brother Jim Friedl, and sister Virginia Hall. He is survived by brother Doug Friedl, children; Mark Friedl, Jeff Friedl, Sandy Sears, Gary Friedl, and Kim Zapf, 7 grandchildren, and five nieces and nephews.

Glen was loved so much by his family and will be dearly missed.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 26th, 2:00pm at The Church at Bakerview, 414 W. Bakerview Rd Ste 105, Bellingham, WA 98226.

Sandy and family – I am so sorry to learn of Glen’s recent passing. It was an honor to get to know him, and Betty, over the years. I always appreciated Glen’s calm disposition and ready smile!

Mark, Jeff, Gary, Sandy and Kim – My heart goes out to you during this hard time. Like your Mom, your Dad always made this knuckleheads neighbor kid feel welcome in your home. He also allowed me to come along for many family outings. You were all like a second family to me, especially Jeff, my little buddy and best friend growing up. Smiling as I remember your Dad and I hope your are too. Take good care.

I have to share a memory of being a young driver, 1983-1984. My dad took me to Glenn’s State Farm office, with my report card ( good student discount) and my glasses ( which the DMV guy strongly assured me that I needed to wear them, after flunking the vision test) Glenn looked over his huge desk, to advise me to never let a boy drive my car! I sure didn’t know any boys yet, but I have never forgotten his kind, necessary advice. He must have been a wonderful father. I am sorry for your loss.
