Obituary

Bellingham, Washington – George William “Bill” McRoberts, Jr, age 79, passed away on Saturday July 30, 2022, after an extended battle with dementia. Bill was born to George and Margaret McRoberts on May 1, 1943, while his father was serving in the US Navy during World War II. After the war, he and his family, including younger brother Jim, moved often, with extended stints in San Diego and Hawaii, until his dad retired from the Navy and settled in Palo Alto, CA, where Bill graduated from Cubberly High School. At 18, Bill and Beverly Jean Oswald were married. They had one child, Shane, and later divorced. Bill worked as a Draftsman at SRI International, and later as a Computer Operator, and then a Technical Writer there and then later at Tandem Computers. It was at SRI that Bill met the love of his life, Leslie. They were married on December 8th, 1978, bringing together their four children into a blended family. Although the last years were challenging due to Bill’s illness, prior to that Leslie and Bill were constant companions who enjoyed golfing, playing cards with each other and with friends, humorous wordplay, and working crossword puzzles. Bill embraced his expanded family, and his positive outlook, quick wit, and good humor will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, Leslie, their children Ron (Amy), Ken (Kim), Jennifer (Eric), and Shane (Shanda), grandchildren Christopher (Lauren), Alex (Geonna), Ashley, Jacob, and Lina, and great-grandkids Ellie and Hank, as well as his brother, Jim.
