Obituary

Frank Anthony Cordero, born October 13, 1947, the second child of Robert and Mable (Purser) Cordero in Bremerton Washington.  Although Chico was his childhood home base, he was also raised in the homes of aunties and uncles from Lummi to Neah Bay as a sibling to many first cousins.

It was during his stay with Uncle Mike and Auntie Ditto that he met the love of his life and at the age of 8 decided he was going to marry her.  He married Geraldine Solomon on December 30, 1967, and together they welcomed two children, Shane Kirk, and Tess Nanett.  On February 20, 2023, he went to join her on their sandy beach where their love will last all eternity.

Prior to marriage, Frank joined the Marine Corps while still in high school.  He completed his basic training at Marine Recruit Depot in San Diego.  During his eight years in the Marines, he completed two tours in Vietnam and was stationed in locations including Okinawa, Bremerton, and Whidbey Island to name a few

After leaving the military, Frank returned his little family to his beautiful wife’s community of Lummi where he became a commercial fisherman with various cousins and uncles.  His fishing experiences took him to Alaska and California as well as local waters.

In the early 90’s Frank recognized that his fellow veterans needed help in navigating the bureaucratic system of Veteran’s Affairs and assisted in establishing the first Tribal Veterans Representative in Lummi Nation.  In this position, he also sat on many boards, commissions, and committees in all levels of government from Tribal to Federal, from Lummi to Washington DC.  Frank was a very humble man and was proud of his accomplishment in the Veterans arena but was never one to tout those accomplishments and his family will follow his wish to not list them

Of all of the titles he held, the title of Grandpa filled him with so much joy and love.  Frank was not only involved in the lives of his grandchildren but instrumental in instilling pride, responsibility, and love of family, to him family was everything.  He may have tried to be the stoic Marine but he would still play princesses with his great-granddaughters and his own version of tag with his great-grandsons.

Frank is survived by his children Shane and Tess, grandchildren Murphy Julius (Kimberly), Shalynn Cordero, Michaela Marshall (Patrick), Joshua Cordero (Cheyenne), and Alysia Cordero; his great-grandchildren Vanessa, Makenna Julius, and Evelyn, Bjorn, and Colson Cordero; siblings Robert Cordero, Linda Holt (Phil), Edward Cordero (Patricia), Thomas Cordero, and Mable Price (Kirk) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
