Obituary

Esther Colleen Miller, known to those who knew and loved her as Colleen, sadly passed away on Monday, March 6th, 2023 at the age of 68.  She was preceded in death by her parents James and Betty (Collins) Miller of Sitka, AK and sister Ruth Miller of Anacortes. Colleen is survived by her only child Amanda (Liam) O’Hara of Edmonds WA,  grandchildren Lilah and Ronan, her sister Naomi Miller of Sitka AK, and her brothers Andy Miller of Edmonds WA and Phillip Miller of Kingston, WA.

Prior to retiring on disability, Colleen worked for the King County Courthouse Sheriff’s Office for over 24 years. Colleen suffered from Marfan Syndrome and lived a much longer life than expected, however, our loss still feels too abrupt. She made the most of the years that she had with hobbies, nature walks and long drives to the coast. She was meticulous in her work, had a creative knack for drawing and watercolor, impeccable handwriting, a fun sense of humor, a love for cats and always expressed her endless support by attending the classical music performances of her daughter.

Colleen was a devoted member of the Mt. Baker Park Presbyterian Church in Seattle for many years and to be closer to her sisters, moved to Bellingham after retirement. Colleen graduated from Sitka High School, and always considered Sitka to be her home.

Colleen will be missed by the friends that she made and by her kind and witty personality during the years living in Bellingham. Per her wishes, there will not be a funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Marfan Foundation (Donate – Marfan Foundation) in Colleen’s name.

  1. Amanda, I am so sorry for your loss, and my sincere condolences to your mother’s sister, brothers and their families.
I did not get to know your mother as well as I would have liked to, although I enjoyed interacting with her on Facebook. She often posted beautiful photos of flowers and wildlife (particularly from Alaska). She also shared many humorous posts, revealing that sense of humor you referred to.
It’s always hard to lose a parent, I know, and sometimes it is comforting to remember them as they were when we were very young and totally dependent on them. Those were the times when we felt so safe.
    Much love, Kathy 💕🥀

My heart goes out to you for the loss of your Mom. Losing a parent is so difficult. I remember first meeting her at your birthday party on Dexter, her beauty and the sweet presents she brought you. May your happy memories soon outweigh the sadness you’re feeling. My deepest sympathies to you and your family. May Colleen rest in peace.
