Obituary

Resident of Ferndale, WA.

Ervin Pfeiffer, or “Erv”, as he was known to his many friends, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on Friday, September 26th, 2014 surrounded by family at Whatcom Hospice House. Erv was born in Norfolk, Nebraska on February 18, 1928. He shared the love of his life for more than 61 years in marriage with his wife, Adele, beginning in 1948.

With young family in tow, Erv and Adele left the farm life of Nebraska in 1957, settling down in Whitefish, Montana, where Erv began his new career in the aluminum industry, and obtained his electrical engineering degree, while working and supporting his family. In 1965, Erv received the opportunity to help with the start-up of the new Intalco Aluminum plant in Ferndale, Washington and became the electrical superintendent there, retiring in 1984.

Retiring at such an early age gave Erv and Adele the opportunity to travel throughout the United States and abroad sightseeing, golfing, or cruising, while forging many new and long-lasting friendships to add to the many already endeared to them. He helped to found Christ Lutheran Church in Ferndale and remained active in many capacities with the church throughout his life.

A man of infinite wisdom and deep Christian convictions, combined with a wonderful sense of humor, Erv would engage in a meaningful conversation with anyone whom he happened upon, regardless of age or circumstance. Anyone fortunate enough to have experienced his many and varied stories, may certainly call him a wonderful “friend”.

Preceded in death by his wife, Adele and brother, Fritz, Erv is survived by his two children, son, Greg and his wife, Sharon, of Vancouver, Washington, and daughter, Renee, of Ferndale; grandchildren, Cassandra Pfeiffer, of San Diego, California, Tiauna Voigt and her husband, Kyle of Bellingham, and Scott Moore of Bellingham; and great-grandchildren, Jordan and Kiarra Voigt.

I was fortunate to meet Erv and Renee recently. My deepest condolences to the family, but especially to Renee, who’s bond with her dad was very special and easily seen whenever I saw them together. It was also evident that Erv was a good father and a good person who cared deeply for his family.

  2. In a world that is sadly lacking in them – Erv was truly a Good Guy. He will be missed.

Don and I wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed your dad. He was one of the first people to welcome us when we first came to CLC. He always seemed to be so happy and upbeat. Along with many others, we will miss him. What a blessing to have had him with you for so many years. Renee – Please give me a call if you just feel like you would like to get out of the house, etc. Come and drop in for a cup of coffee. Bette
