May God’s peace and comfort be with all of you.

I was very grieved to hear of Ernie’s sudden passing. Although we were living quite far from each other at the time of his death, I feel close to him because we are both in the mission field serving the Lord cross-culturally.
Ernie was a tremendous influence in my maturation as a Christian leader. He was the rector at the first KAIROS prison ministry ‘weekend’ I was part of. He taught me what it truly means to be obedient to our calling–and really taught me what it means when the Bible says that “obedience is greater than sacrifice.”

We served together many years at Coxsackie correctional facility as members of KAIROS where I saw him as a spiritual mentor.

I will remember most his ‘piping’ Amazing Grace at the chapel service during those weekends in prison.

I pray that I can have the peace of heart, when the Lord calls me home, of knowing that I have served him faithfully, the way Ernie did.

Rebecca and I will miss you Ernie and we look forward to the reunion at His banquet table someday. Until then, we pray for the Lord to send workers into the vineyard to continue the work you had been doing in Washington, and in New York as well.

‘Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints’ Psalm 116:15

I worked with Ernie for many years at IBM. Always entertaining, he was. My sincere condolences to the family. Rest in peace, “Piper”. JB.

  5. Ernie Spent six very short months studying at Gateway in 2012. I was assigned to be his mentor during that time I do not know yet who mentored who. Because God put Ernie in my life for a short time I am a different person Gateway is a different place because Ernie was here. Anyone who ever experienced Ernie could not remain the same, Ernie left his mark on the heart of anyone he came into contact with. Ernie will be missed but never forgotten. My wife Gail and myself will continue to keep Linda in our prayers daily. The world is a better place because Ernie was here.
