Obituary

Ena Assunta Padovan, age 89, passed away on September 16, 2021 in Bellingham, WA.

She was born on September 29, 1931 in Vancouver, B.C. to parents Gino and Giovanna Padovan. On June 18, 1955, Ena married her late husband, Mario Padovan, in Vancouver, BC. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage until Mario’s passing on July 22, 2007.

Ena worked as a salesperson at Macy’s for 10 years in the dresses and handbag department, which served her love of shopping, and her distinctive sense of style. Her home was filled with interesting, one-of-a-kind wall art that she adored.

Ena always had a sharp mind. She was quick at adding long columns of numbers and an excellent speller. She also loved traveling in their R.V., listening to lively music (especially her favorite singer, Mario Lanza), and enjoying ceramics, knitting, and puzzles. She could be serious at times, but she loved her family deeply and cherished their time together. Ena will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Ena is survived by her daughter Anita Padovan Goecke and son Stephen Padovan; grandchildren Derrick Goecke, Danielle Goecke, Onjolie Padovan, and Rachel Nichols; great-granddaughter Madison Richter; sister Noreen Cowling, niece Dianne Cowling; and nephews Carey Cowling and Randy Cowling. She is preceded in death by her husband Mario Padovan, her father Gino Padovan, and her mother Giovanna Calderone Padovan.

Ena’s family would like to thank Vineyard Haven Adult Family Home, PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center, Grace Manor Adult Family Home, and Whatcom Hospice for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Whatcom Feline Alliance (5309 Bellaire Way, Bellingham, WA 98226).

A graveside service will be held on Friday October 8, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Greenacres Memorial Park – 5700 Northwest Dr. Ferndale, WA.

Please share your memories of Ena in her online guestbook.

I knew Ena through her wonderful daughter Anita-a good friend since high school. I knew she enjoyed shopping so agree that her job at Macy’s was a perfect fit for her.
I was also fortunate enough to take trips to Canada with Ena, Mario & Anita and I have so many fun memories from these amazing experiences.
One time we did a long drive from Vancouver to Banff so we all spent hours together in the car. I remember Ena’s laugh and humor which made the long trip more enjoyable.
I could see that Anita was a loving daughter and compassionate caretaker for her dear mom in her later years.
She will be missed, but her spirit lives on in her children & grandchildren.
