Resident of Ferndale

Elma Linker Carmichael of Ferndale, WA passed away in her home surrounded by her family Sunday March 2, 2014 at the age of 103. Elma was born March 29, 1910 in Ritzville, WA to George David Linker and Kathryn Walters Linker. Raised a farmer’s daughter until her Marriage to Don Carmichael at the age of 25 when she left to live and travel by her husband’s side all over the country, and even the world, until his death in 1975. She then returned to Ferndale to live out the rest of her days close to her siblings and other extended family. The second oldest of seven children, Elma was a born caretaker who lovingly raised three children of her own, was a constant in the lives of her 6 grandchildren and an unforgettable role model for her 14 great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all, including the numerous nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors who lives she touched. Elma was preceded in death by her husband, Donovan Fulton Carmichael, her sons, Daniel Carmichael and Richard Carmichael, her daughter, Rosetta Gale Fish and her brother and five sisters. Elma is survived by her sister-in-law, Marie Linker of Bellingham, WA; her daughter-in-law, Carol Carmichael of Pine Hollow, OR; her grandchildren, Teresa Carter and her husband, Dr. Thomas Carter, Jr. of Raleigh, NC; David Carmichael and his wife, Cathy Carmichael of Santa Cruz, CA; Laurie Pryse and her husband, Christopher Pryse of Portland, OR; Shari Diaz and her husband, Martin Diaz of Hillsboro, OR; Debbie Lyda and her husband, Roger Lyda of Condon, OR; and Kimberly Carmichael of Bend, OR; her great-grandchildren Taylor Lee and her husband Blake Burney, Alex Carter, Savannah Carter, Kendra Nelson and her husband Matthew Nelson, Kristin Miller and her husband Tyler Miller, Donovan Carmichael, Andrew Pryse, Austin Pryse, Joshua Diaz, Colby Diaz, Jordan Diaz and his wife Malia, Cassandra Lyda, Brittney Lyda, and Mikayla Petersen; and her great-great- granddaughters, Na’ima and E’lia Diaz.

Farewell Tribute Information

Visitation will beheld Friday, March 7, at Evergreen Community Church in Ferndale from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM with a funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM.

  1. I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to Elma’s family and friends. I hope you can find comfort in the promise found at Isaiah 25:8 which says ” He will swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces”. I am truly sorry for your loss.
