Obituary

Born in Seattle, Washington

Betty White of Bellingham, Washington, passed peacefully away on Saturday, April 5, 2014. Betty was born in Seattle on October 23, 1922. Betty especially loved animals, outdoor sports and creating pottery.
She loved the many happy summers spent at their summer place on Angle Lake (now in SeaTac). After graduating from Lincoln HS, she attended UW in the School of Nursing at Swedish Hospital.
She met her future husband, Fordyce White, on a blind date while at UW and they continued writing while he was overseas during the war. A few months prior to graduating, Ford returned to Seattle and they were married. The nursing program didnt allow married students so Betty left the school.
The couple lived next to Bettys parents on Angle Lake were they enjoyed a life rich with family and friends. The camaraderie of those post-WWII friendships was especially close and has extended to many of the families children.
Betty later earned a degree to become a Registered Nurse and worked at Swedish Hospital. She loved being a nurse and often helped neighbors in the then rural area.
They moved to Lake Samish, Bellingham in 1987 where they made new friends and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together.
Betty and Ford were always active church members, most recently at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Bellingham.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Ford and sister Dotty Sampson of Hemet, CA. Betty will be dearly missed by her daughter Marilyn (Steve), sons Russell (Judi) White and Ford (Katie) White, grandchildren Erica, Stephanie, Matthew and Sarah, two great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.

  1. Dear Marilyn:
I saw the obituary of your mother’s death in the paper and put it aside so that I would be sure to let you know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. I know your mother had been sick for quite some time. Several times when we were visiting the rest home or driving by, I would see your car there and knew you were there to visit and support your mom as you so faithfully did when we were working together. Hopefully, you will find comfort in the knowledge that you were there for your mother whenever she needed you. If she would call you at work needing help, she was your priority. You took her to the doctor, took care of her many other needs, spent time with her; and most of all, you loved her and supported her physically and emotionally. You were a fine example for all of us.

I know, Marilyn, you are a Bible reader, and I am sure you have found comfort, as I have, in the Bible’s resurrection hope as stated in Acts 24:15, John 5:28, 29 and finally the hope of seeing death and sickness done away with forever as stated at Revelation 21:3, 4.

Jim and I are thinking of you and your family.

    Emma Jean Shephard
