Obituary

Edna Forsythe of Custer passed away on February 6th at the age of 93. Edna was born in Everson to Helga and Peter Dahle. She married her high school sweetheart, James W. Forsythe, in June, 1944, celebrating 73 years this past June.

Edna and James were in the last graduating class at Custer High School in 1942. Edna spent 30 plus years being the first mate to her Captain Jim on commercial fishing Trollers in the fishing grounds of SE Alaska. Off season was open to traveling, sewing, and checking up on her large family. She was also a long time member of the Rebecca Lodge in Custer. One of her favorite jobs that she had was working several years for KIRO TV in the mail room, due to her also working as a substitute mail carrier for Custer.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marie, and brother Gerald.

Survivors include her husband James, son Dr. Larry (Susan) Forsythe, daughter Judy (David) Emley, grandson David (Lisa) Forsythe, granddaughter MaryAnn (Curtis) Fenimore, Judy’s six sons (The Slaughters), Jeff (Lisa), Jim (Kelly), Chris (Geneva), Jason, John (Marlene), and Sam (Angela), 12 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a large extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Edna’s name to Haynie Helping Hands Cemetery Fund (C/O 3333 McGee Rd. Custer, WA 98240), a Heart Fund, Evergreen Community Church (PO Box 1569, Ferndale, WA 98248) or a charity of your choice.

All are invited to join Edna’s family for a graveside service on Monday, Feb. 12th, at 12:00PM at Greenacres Memorial Park (5700 NW Dr. Ferndale) followed by a memorial service and reception at 1:30PM at Evergreen Community Church (6899 Enterprise Rd. Ferndale, 98248).
