Obituary

Man about town, Duane “Dewey” Dimic Walter, met with his Lord, God Almighty, September 6, 2015 @ age 89 in Bellingham, WA. Born to Easburn & Mary (Bremer) Walter on August 8, 1926 in Hazel, Washington. The family moved to Bellingham to set up dairy & beef farming. As a youngster, Dewey rode the bus to both Harmony School and Mt. Baker High School in which he graduated from the class of 1943. Duane joined the Army serving active duty on Luzon & Leyte Islands in the Philippines during WWII. While attending WSC in Pullman majoring in Dairy which he claimed to be the best ‘butter fat’ taster in his class, Dewey met his first wife, Suzanne McLaughlin. With a growing family of children, Dewey worked various jobs including packing shakes & shingles alongside his sawyer father. Later he was employed over 25 years with Foremost Dairy. Semi-retired he then worked packing shingles as a ‘hobby’ in Burlington. In his late 60’s, Dewey found his ‘niche’ when Edaleen Dairy hired him-working there 10 yrs. His favorite past times were driving all over the countryside with his lady companion, Elerine Shields, reading his Bible, word puzzles, coffee @ The Hilltop or enjoying the outdoors chopping wood. He is preceded in death by his parents along with his brother – Arthur Walter. He is survived by his children: (daughter) Diane Walter-Duim, (sons) Craig & Blake Walter with grandchildren: Brian, Harold & Rowan Walter.

  1. Wally Middleton informed me of Dewey’s passing. I enjoyed knowing Dewey and working with him for many years at Foremost Dairies. I would very much like to attend the memorial service but today my health isn’t up to it. My sympathy to the family.

  2. To the Family and All Who Knew And Loved Dewey,
My sons and I are grateful for the love and companionship Dewey provided to my mother-in-law, Elerine Shields, for the past 18 years. She delighted in his company and we all enjoyed his presence at family events and special occasions. My late wife, Sara, was especially thankful for the close friendship he shared with her mother. Dewey was a blessing to her and to our whole family.

Wishing you comfort in your time of loss and joy in your memories of the good things Dewey contributed to your lives.

    Kirk, Jordan and Zachary

  3. I worked with Dewey for over 20 years at the Foremost Dairy ice cream plant in Everett. He was a skilled and dependable worker who used his college degree for a good use. Peace and love to all of Dewey’s family and friends as we mourn his passing and celebrate his unique life.
