  1. It was my honor to have a long term personal and professional friendship with Bill during his days in Iowa and beyond. Bill succeeded me as president of the Iowa principals group and we worked together for many years at the state and national level.
In addition we had a close friendship outside of school. Whether visiting Bill in Dubuque for my son’s college football games or in Washington in later years, we always had a great time. He often provided all the fish for our professional gatherings.

Bill had a wide range of interests and experiences which always made for interesting conversations and social times. It was my privilege to share some of the early days of Bill and Norma’s blossoming relationship as well.

Bill was an outstanding educational leader at all levels. He was articulate, energetic, and creative in his thinking. His contributions to education will live into the future.

I consider it an honor to have met, worked with, enjoyed, and known Bill. Rest in peace my friend.
