Obituary

Dr. Hubert Thoreson, distinguished professor, dedicated family man, and cherished friend, passed away at the age of 96 on August 12, 2024, in Bellingham, WA.

Hubert was born on February 3, 1928, to Hjalmer and Nanna Thoreson in Bismarck, North Dakota. He was married to his late wife Maureen V. Schmuhl on September 1, 1955 in Valley City, North Dakota.  Hubert served as a professor and chairman of the Business Department at Western Washington University (WWU). He was also a respected president of the Washington State Business Educational Association.

Hubert will be warmly remembered for his weekly visits with his grand-puppy, Charlie.   His summers were spent at the family lake house on Lake Lida in Minnesota where he enjoyed spending time with loved ones, golfing, boating and working in the yard.  During the winter months he would travel to Palm Desert, California enjoying spending time golfing and being with his son, family and friends.

Hubert was a beacon of sincerity, humility, and generosity. He had a kind and loving personality, and will fondly be remembered for his protective, honest and fun personality.

Hubert is survived by his son, Steven (Heidi) Thoreson; his brother, Vern (Beverly) Thoreson; his three granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.
