Obituary

Douglas Dale James Jr., Sit-ki-kadem,  age 51 of Bellingham, Washington, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2020. He was born on March 10, 1969, in Bellingham to Douglas James Sr. and Maria Rosario. Doug was a commercial fisherman who loved spending time on the water and always took initiative to work hard and do whatever was needed to help his people, especially looking after his Auntie Sherri. On his 21st birthday he had an accident that left him wheelchair bound. Doug never let his disability hold him back. He worked his way out of his wheelchair with courage and strength and a little help from his dad. First to stand then walk step by step. He had a strong spirit and was an overcomer.  He loved attending all community events and was a true Lummi icon known by all. Doug loved spending time with family and friends. He was always happy to see everyone and would walk anywhere to go see them.  He spent a lot of time working out which made him super strong physically.  Doug was a real charmer and loved women. He enjoyed bacheloring with his Uncle Walter. He was a man of Christian faith and Family is comforted knowing he is with His Lord and ancestors.  He is survived by his dad, Doug James Sr. (Siam’elwit); honorary parents Sherri James , Walter James, and Elizabeth Turner. siblings Simon James Sr., Peter James Sr., Misty Casimir, Gena Brockhaur, Jacqueline Jim, Michelle Jimmy (Cory), Cassandra James, Jerome Decotaeu, Robert Decotaeu,  Quintin Decotaeu, Michael Daniels, and Jonah James;  daughters Trisha James, Amanda James, and Genelle James; son Douglas James III; grandchildren Kashis James, Zamora Strong, Vanna James, Trishton Strong, Derick James, Drake James, Susanna James, Conner James, Simone James, Mathies James and honorary grandson Angel Enriquez; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his mother Maria Rosario, grandparents Joe James, Velma James, Rita Balch and Peter Rosario. A family viewing will be held Wednesday, June 17 at 9:00am at Moles Ferndale followed by a family graveside service at 11:00am at Lummi Nation Cemetery.

  1. Doug was a believer in The Lord Jesus Christ . . He loved prayers & had that kind of Faith and spirituality. He was a “one of a kind” Doug-a Doug-a. Bless his soul with a new home in eternity w/ Father, Son, Holy Ghost and all the beloved who went before him . . his joy, happiness & peace complete from here on . .our next lives . . Amen, In Jesus’ Name & what he done for us.
