Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Andrew Jacobsen announces his passing on Saturday, May 6, 2018 at 89 years old.
Born in Bellingham WA and a native of Edmonds, WA, Doug graduated from Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy. Doug served his country in the US Navy, retiring as a captain, and continued serving in the Naval Reserves.
Doug earned a maritime law degree from University of Washington and a Master’s Degree from New York University of Law. He joined the law firm of Bingham, Englar, Jones and Houston specializing in maritime law representing claimants all over the world. Douglas enjoyed a successful career achieving CEO status of his firm. He retired to Bellingham in the early 1990s.
He leaves his wife Joan; sisters Betty Roberson and Jean Weinheimer; daughters Leslie Pichel, Laura Phelps, and Linda Jalbert; three grandchildren: Ian and Jeffrey Phelps and Nicki Pichel Nabasny; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of Doug’s life at 1:00 PM on Saturday May 12 at Moles Farewell Tributes (2465 Lakeway Drive, Bellingham, WA). There will be a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.

    I was very sad to just learn yesterday of the passing of Doug. He was a gentleman and one of the greats in the maritime industry. I had the pleasure to work and travel with Doug all over the world for decades. He will be remembered. My best wishes to all his family.
