Obituary

Born in Waupaca, Wisconsin, Dorothy Jean Lord was one of 6 lively siblings. By all accounts she was a gregarious, imaginative, humorous, and energetic child who taught herself to read at age 3……. and never stopped!

She passed away quickly and at peace with her loving family by her side.

At the age of 19 she met the one and only love of her life, Bob Argue, in Dallas Texas at a dance. Dad was smitten from the 1st. moment and remained so throughout their 64 exciting years together. though Bob passed in 2006 he never left her.

Passionate, quick witted, uninhibited, sociable, and caring are only a few words that describe her. She was a true individual who was not timid about expressing her thoughts and opinions on any subject.

Her presence was truly felt. She put passion and conviction into the causes she believed in, contributing much time and effort volunteering for the democratic party, both local and national.

While living in Seattle she could be heard almost daily on public radio talk show forums sharing her thoughts on current events. Her knowledge was impressive and convincing and the hosts all called her Dottie. A voracious reader and lover of literature she managed 2 bookstores for over 10 years.

Cooking for and entertaining her many friends and acquaintances gave her great joy and were times remembered by all who came. Our memories hold a spectrum of guests from numerous friends, political activists, artists and writers, to foreign students and interesting people she had just met. Conversation was lively, humorous, informative, and thought provoking, but also zany and fun.

Neighborhood children would frequently visit and she gave warmth and love to those whose home life was not so happy. Bread and cookie baking, taffy pulls, hugs and laughter, but more important she nurtured a sense of self and confidence in those who needed it most.

She encouraged wild animals such as raccoons and deer with food. A mother raccoon and her 4 babies lived under their deck for awhile.

Her interest in all arts was lifelong and extended to creative writing groups, book reading gatherings, and frequent art gallery and museum visits.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and son, John Argue.

Survivors include her three children; Patti Pace, Jano Argue, and Bob Spencer; grandchildren, David, Mindy, Alan, Heidi, Marie, Noel, Lena, Brett, and Amber; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She and dad will both be remembered with love and fondness by all who had the pleasure to have known them.

With very special thanks to the staff at Stafholt nursing home for making her last years pleasurable, peaceful, and comfortable. It meant a lot to not just mom but all of us.
