Doris L. Hayes, age 89, of Bellingham, Washington, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2024.

Born on March 16, 1935, in Monroe, Washington, Doris lived a life full of love, creativity, and devotion to her family. She married her beloved husband, Wilfred Hayes, on October 29, 1953. Together, they raised three children: Cynthia, Michael, and Jodie, and were blessed with seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Doris was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.

Doris was a quiet, observant woman with a sharp mind and an incredible memory. She loved to take in the world around her, always quietly and thoughtfully engaged with the people in her life. She and Wilfred created many lasting memories when they bought a piece of property at Cape Horn on the Skagit River, where they made their own private campground. This special place was the backdrop for countless moments of joy with family and friends.

Known for her craftiness, Doris was an expert in many creative pursuits. She was an avid collector of bells, a talented crocheter and knitter, and the head designer for flower arrangements at Michaels. Doris also took cake decorating classes and was known for baking beautiful cakes that were as delicious as they were stunning. A great cook, she loved hosting family dinners, especially during the holidays, always serving something homemade and delicious with love and care.

Doris’ family and many others who knew her will miss her deeply. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and warmth that will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to be part of her life.

A Memorial Service to honor Doris will be held on Sunday, March 16th, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Greenacres Memorial Chapel, 5700 Northwest Drive, Ferndale, WA.
