Obituary

Donna Mae Porter, born on July 24, 1938, in Bellingham, passed away on August 26, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of Henry and Bobetta Brandt.

One of her fondest joys was accompanying her grandkids to Dairy Queen for ice cream, always ready to be goofy and share a laugh. Donna’s love extended to quiet coffee moments at Lee’s Drive In, where she found solace in the simple pleasures of life. Her meticulous care and attention were evident as she dusted her collection of delicate glass figurines, each a testament to her nurturing spirit.

The holiday season was made magical by Donna’s touch as she lovingly crafted peanut butter balls and mints at Christmas, a tradition that will forever warm the hearts of her family. She found solace and delight in feeding the ducks, a reflection of her connection with nature. Skip-Bo games and her enthusiasm for travel, often organized for her birthday celebrations, showcased her vibrant and adventurous side.

Beyond her cherished roles as a mother and grandmother, Donna was diligent, affectionate, sincere, creative, elegant, and even a touch stubborn. Her elegance shone through her favorite activities: reading, participating in her card club, cheering for the Mariners, and attending her grandchildren’s events.

Professionally, Donna dedicated her time to Horizon Bank, where she served as a switchboard operator. Her commitment to her work mirrored her commitment to her family – unwavering and sincere.

What will be remembered most about Donna is the love she showered upon her family. Her daily naps were her cherished moments of rest, and her travels with family were a testament to her adventurous spirit.

She is survived by her daughter Kim Thunder (Allan), son Brian Porter (Regis), sister Karen Brandt Brookshire; granddaughters Amy Klien (Jon), Molly Thunder, Ashley Porter and Alyssa Porter; grandsons Nathan Thunder (Candice), Andrew Porter (Jenny), LB Gwinner, Chance Gwinner (Ondrea) and Payton Porter (Cassandra).

Donna was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Bobetta Brandt, her sister Sharon Tutterow, sister Barbara Clary, and brother Henry Brandt. Donna was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Kevin Porter.

In this time of grief, let us remember the joy and warmth that Donna brought into our lives. Her memory will forever be etched in our hearts, and the love she shared will continue to inspire us.
