Obituary

Delores Lucille Markwood, age 91, passed away on September 18, 2021 in Bellingham, Washington. Delores was born in Bellingham on January 18, 1930 to Robert and May (Moore) Raplee.

On April 8, 1949, Delores married Wallace Cecil Markwood and they spent 69 wonderful years together until he passed away on March 23, 2019.

Delores was an excellent cook and hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for all the family. She loved oil painting with Bob Ross, agate hunting at the beach, sewing Barbie clothes with her best friend, Sharon Mitchell, going to ceramics and painting porcelain figurines.

Delores worked at many photography studios, and as a self-taught oil-painter she would paint the sepia tone prints, adding all the colors of the clothing, hair, and makeup. Endless treasured memories with Delores include Birch Bay crab cookouts, boating, swimming, agate hunting, and beach fires with s’mores in the summer. In the fall, there was canning, sewing, and her beloved coffee and cookies. Winter memories were made with her love to decorate for Christmas, her homemade Christmas gifts, and of course her wonderful holiday dinners.

She was known to be dressed to the “nines”, always warm and welcoming to everyone, gracious, and very giving. Her family will remember her kindness, patience, and beauty.

Delores is survived by her sister Shirley Waters, brother Robert Raplee, son Brad (Susan) Markwood, daughters Reneé Amos, Kim Peterson, and Pam (Mike) Rorvig, as well as 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Friday October 15, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale, Washington.
