Obituary

David W. Nesbitt, age 79, went home to be with the Lord on August 28, 2021 in Bellingham, WA.   David was born March 6, 1942 in Bellingham to parents Wilbur and Eleanore Nesbitt.  He graduated from Mt. Baker High School in 1960, but didn’t let that deter him from logging at the age of 14 with draft horses.  He went on to drive log truck before starting his own company.  He had a talent for rebuilding and restoring equipment, and often said that he bought his equipment “by the ton”.

He was known for his generosity in helping family members and his many friends.  He enjoyed basketball games, working on projects in his shop, and especially spending time with his grandsons.  He will be remembered for saying, “The key is in the ignition.”

David was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur H. and Eleanore W. Nesbitt and his wife, Vicki (Ladiser) Nesbitt.

He is survived by his daughter, Christi Joyce and her husband Bill; grandsons Benjamin and Jacob; and his sister Jeanette Beck.

David requested no memorial services.  A private family service will be held at Greenacres.

  1. I couldn’t have ask for a better brother, than David! He was always there for me in time of need. At the end of our phone visits, he always told me to be sure to let him know if I needed anything. I know that he met what he said! I admired him for his work ethic, his generosity in helping others, the love he showed to his family and his sense of humor.
    Love you forever,
    Jeanette

    1. correction to the above condolence for David. I should have said “I know that he meant what he said”.

  2. Where do I start with Dave? He was a Friend first and foremost. J\He was my boss for a year as I worked for him in the woods and drove a bit of truck for him. I spent many a time in the shop working on equipment and things. I learned so much from Dave more than I’ll ever recall that’s for sure.
He was one of my Dad’s best friends and they did heaps of things together with many an adventure had. He had a great sense of humour and teased my dad all the time. He’d always say Stanley your going to have to accept that issue as my dad was not accepting of something then Dave would have a chuckle grab his suspenders and grin. Dave was always giving and generous in many ways. He was especially supportive of when my dad passed away way to soon. I know Dave missed him.
I grew up with Dave most of my life before moving to Australia. He is someone I missed greatly as he was always a joy to be around. I recall logging down out of Lyman for LB&R. I was chasing on the landing and was cutting a big white cedar butt down to size and the saw flipped down and cut my shin. Dave was very concerned and looked very upset. Luckily just some flesh cut up and Dave said you want to shut down and go to the doctor? I said no and we kept on yarding timber. I went to the doctor latter and had stiches.
I also recall going and looking at equipment and trucks together, Logging down in Acme. Up behind great western and even over on Lummi Island. So many times I just can’t imagine putting them all down here.
The last time I saw Dave was in 2010 he hauled my old Mustang into the DOT for an inspection so I could ship it to Australia. Again ever so helpful. After we finished we went to Everson for Breakfast and a coffee. I only wish I’d have had another chance to do it all again.
To Christy, Bill, & Boys along with Jeanette I send my Deepest Condolences. The world lost a Great Man and I for one will miss not knowing he’s around anymore.
In closing I know he’s in a good place and he and Dad, Mr Otten are out looking for the next adventure or timber sale. I’m sure Dave will find another “Creammer” job in Heaven. I’ll miss you Dave your a legend till we meet again my friend God Bless.

  3. He was always Mr. Nesbit to me. He was a great friend to my parents and continued to help my mom with small repairs after my dad passed away. A very big hearted and generous man with a wealth of knowledge and talent. What a great neighbor to have. You will be missed by many.

  4. Janet Gilda says:

Mr. Nesbitt was a long time friend to our family. He and my husband did some logging together and traded/ sold equipment back and forth. He was always ready to help in time of need with his tool box and a cheerie smile, such a blessing to us.
