Obituary

David Given-Seymour was born June 23, 1951 in Des Moines, Iowa and grew up in Creston Iowa. After graduating from Simpson College in Iowa, David made Whatcom County his home. He then obtained a second bachelors degree from Huxley College. In 1988, David married Susan Given, the love of his life, and quickly became a friend, then a father, to daughter Jennie.

Davids life was rich and full. Both inquisitive and thoughtful, he read extensively and carefully considered what he learned. A briliant strategist, David organized a successful effort to save Cherry Point from a huge and ill-conceived marine project. He enjoyed working as a funding consultant to regional nonprofit organizations. He loved gardening, music, bird watching and other outdoor activities. He made beautiful gardens in our world but secretly aspired to make the world into a garden. David had an understated and sometimes wicked sense of humor that had the people who loved him laughing to the very end. He was at his best when he was with the people he loved.

David died in hospice on June 11 with his family and his best friend, Michael, at his side, released at last from his struggle with lung cancer. He is survived by his wife, Susan, daughter, Jennie, and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jerrie Seymour, his father, Mel Seymour, and brother Ken Seymour. We will miss his presence in our world.

A green burial service in The Meadow Natural Burial Ground is planned for June 17 at 1 oclock at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale, 5700 Northwest Drive, corner of Axton Rd
