Obituary

David Logan passed away at age 94 on March 23, 2017, surrounded by his three children, Janet, Margaret, and Mark, at the Mt. Baker Care Center in Bellingham. He was born in Vancouver and graduated from Lord Byng High School. In 1940 he began to train as a pilot for the RCAF. Fortunately, he never had to serve overseas and spent the war protecting our coast. After the war, he married Miriam Steer, and they traveled east to study at the University of Manitoba. He graduated as an Architect in 1951. David Logan returned to Vancouver in 1956 and became an associate and then partner at Ducan McNab’s architecture firm. Together they worked on Schools for Vancouver and Coquitlam. They won the Gordon Shum competition to design the theatre and gym at SFU. Dad won a Massey Metal in Architecture for the theatre. Some of his other projects included Raymur Housing Project, UBC Biological Science Building, and Icelandic Harbour Nursing home.
David travelled to Lesotho and worked for CIDA, this is also where he met his second wife, Pat Goodale. After living in Lesotho, they moved to Seattle and started a gallery called Native Design. Eventually Pat passed away with MS and Dad moved to Bellingham to be closer to his children.
As a caring father, his love and devotion to his children and family remained constant. He was well loved and will be deeply missed. A service to celebrate David’s life will be held on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Baker Care Center – 2905 Connelly Ave. Bellingham, WA.

  1. I was minister of the Unitarian Church of Vancouver at the time he was a valued member, and during that time he drew up imaginative plans for the remodelling of my home. I much appreciated his friendship, and cherish warm memories.. Phillip Hewett

My brother and I shared many meals with David at Mt. Baker Care Center. I’ll remember his blue eyes and smile with fondness.
Thinking of you during this difficult time.
