Obituary

Clara was given the gift of life, and now she has had to give it back. As hard as this may be, she was a lucky woman. Some may say the luckiest of all. Although the final push was long and hard, she relished in the time she was able to spend with her family and friends. Some of her most treasured moments in life were simply spending time with her children, grandchildren, and taking care of her family. Clara Haight moved on from this world on June 21st, 2017 at the age of 75 and is survived by her caring husband Lawrence Haight, her children Larry Haight and Anita Tromp, her brothers Ron Long and Dale Long, and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death in an untimely manner by her daughter Sherry Haight.

Clara was born on June 4th, 1942 in Prairie Grove, Arkansas through the union of Elmer Long and Mayona Phillips with the company of four brothers. On August 21st, 1959 Clara and Lawrence Haight became one in a beautiful union that was blessed with three children, Sherry, Larry, and Anita. Although their journey began in Concrete, Washington, it marched onward and settled in Ferndale, Washington where they both lived happily as long-term residents. Throughout her life, she continuously strived for knowledge, understanding, and love.

Clara was certainly never someone who could back down from a challenge and although her stubbornness may have been frustrating at times, it was also part of her strength. She never stopped caring and never stopped loving, no matter what she was going through. She was a talented artist, seamstress, baker, ice sculptor (although some say it looked like an angry chicken), hunter, fisher, amazing friend, loving wife, and caring mother/grandmother. She spent many years fishing and hunting with her husband throughout Washington. Although, some would say she could out-shoot and out-fish her husband. All of her skills and strengths aside, one of her greatest accomplishments is her loving family and the friendships she has created along the way.

The woman who refused to give up, refused to back down, and the woman who taught us to love and laugh is now at rest after a long hard journey. She will be missed as a wife, mother, friend, and grandmother. Although she has departed from this world, she is not forgotten. She is very much alive through the love and memories she has spread to those around her.

A private graveside service is to be held at Enterprise Cemetery on June 29th, 2017, where she will be laid to rest. A memorial is to follow in the following months. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to an organization of your choice.

  1. There are no words to express how grateful I am to have been friends with Clara and the family for the past 47 years. Having been adopted into the Haight clan in the early 70’s was the best thing that ever happened to me.
I will miss her every day.

    Love and hugs to all.

You are so missed. They should have a picture on here that shows Banana Bread, cause yours is the best. Ask anyone! The best thing that could have happened moving here in 1977 was getting you as a neighbor, friend, and confidant. Rest in peace in Gods hands.

  4. So sorry for your lost! Clare was the best neighbor/friend I ever had! Will always have the great memories of our kids growing up together and all of our fun times together living next door to her for so many years! I still use the pie crust recipe she taught me how to make and all the great recipes she shared with me. She was one of a kind and will be so missed by everyone! My thoughts & prayers are with you all!

  5. It is with a saddened heart to lose this wonderful lady and neighbor. We will miss her so much. God’s speed and healing to her family.
