Obituary
Charmie Fern Hewett passed away on January 9, 2013. Born in Bellingham, WA on October 6th, 1927 to John and Rachel Grinstead, her life was filled with adventure as wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, business woman, and traveler.
Charmie was the oldest of eight children with six brothers and one sister. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Jim and Bob Grinstead. She is survived by her husband William “Bud” Hewett, siblings Dave Grinstead (Nita) of Bellingham, Ray Grinstead (Shirley) of Bellingham, Bill Grinstead (Jenny) of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Ginny Armstrong (Rolly) of Cathlamet, Washington, Ed Grinstead of Florida and children Pat Higman (Ernie) of Lynden, Mel Hewett (Jamie) of Bellingham, Bill Hewett (Teri) of Bellingham and Greg Hewett ( Neil) of Bellevue. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren; sisters-in-law June Grinstead of Bellingham and Barbara Grinstead of Atlanta, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charmie and Bud were married in 1948 and opened the Color Pot decorating store in Bellingham in 1953 and operated it for almost 40 years. (Their son Bill continues the family tradition to this day.) During that time, Charmie handled the financial management of the operation. Her greatest love was family gatherings (she was an exceptional cook and hostess) and traveling around the world. While there wasn’t a state she hadn’t visited, she also went overseas numerous times visiting both the eastern and western parts of the world.
Charmie touched the lives of many with her caring, generosity, and insightfulness. She will be dearly missed by many and remembered fondly by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in her name to the Mount Baker Kidney Center in Bellingham, Washington.
Memorial Services for Charmie Fern Hewett are scheduled for Friday January 18th, 2013 at 2:00pm at Moles Greenacres Funeral Home at 5700 Northwest Dr in Ferndale, WA.

I remember my Aunt Charmie as a woman with a kind and caring heart and I know she will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to her loved ones and hope that this reminder can give them some comfort at this time: “A heart is not judged by how much we love but by how much we are loved by others”.
