Obituary

A lifelong Whatcom County resident, Charles F. Kermen was born in Bellingham, WA to Henry and Gladys (Pullar) Kermen on July 18, 1931. After his graduation from Burlington-Edison High School, Charles enlisted in the Air Force and served in the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Charles married Shirley A. Rand in 1953 and they shared 64 wonderful years together. After Charles retired from the WA State Department of Transportation where he worked as a survey engineer, he and Shirley spent many years as snowbirds with the Holiday Rambler RV Club. They also joined and served administratively in the Sea to Ski Travel Club and enjoyed many extensive motor coach tours with Christy’s Tours and Travel where Charlie and Shirley worked part time and enjoyed a large family of travel friends. In the late 1980’s, winters were spent at Country Roads RV Park, AZ and in the 1990’s, winters were enjoyed in Yuma, AZ. Charles and Shirley always spent spring, summer, and fall at their home in Bellingham, enjoying the Pacific Northwest. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1585 of Bellingham.

Preceding Charles in death are his brother, Gerald Kermen, and sister, Florence Pinney; both of whom passed away in 2017.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley.

A graveside service with military honors will take place on Monday, July 24th at 2:00pm at Greenacres Memorial Park (5700 NW Drive, Ferndale).
