Obituary

Cecil Robert Simplot, age 85, passed away on July 1, 2017 in Bellingham, Washington. Cecil graduated from Bellingham High School in 1950. From 1951 – 1954, he served in the U.S. Navy, and while on leave, he met the love of his life in Times Square, Frances “Dolly” Amato. They were married on November 14, 1954 in New Jersey, and went on to have four beautiful daughters.

Cecil had endless passions and hobbies: gardening, reading, boating, travelling, and caring for his animals – from dogs to cows, and all manner of farm animals. He was an avid football fan, and loved the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Huskies. He belonged to the UW Tyee Club and attended all Rose Bowl games. He was dedicated to his job, working tirelessly as a pipefitter for Georgia Pacific. But he will be remembered most for his unwavering devotion to his family. He was a loving husband, a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, a good provider, and an amazing friend.

Cecil is survived by loving wife Dolly Simplot; his daughters Debbie (Sonny) Banks, Marlene (Dale) Dunphy, Darlene (Mike) Casper, and Diane (Sherman Smith) Simplot; brother and sister-in-law Michael Simplot and Phyllis Simplot, as well as siblings, cousins, three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Cecil is preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Esther Simplot, his sister Marlene Simplot, and his brother James Simplot.

oh my gosh seeing that cecil has passed on brought back a memorie that he did to me. he asked me if i had ever kissed one of his brothers that i had a crash on and i said no so he walked right over and kissed him for me. i about feel over with embarrassment and his brother giving him the meanest look ever. i still to this day see that look and every one laughing. he was a funny guy~ lynda roybal, quail valley, California

  3. We’re so deeply sorry for your loss. Michael lit a candle when I told him the sad news. Please accept our heartfelt condolences and know that you’re in our thoughts and prayers.
I only met him on a couple of occasions, but Bob was a wonderful and good-natured guy with a truly loving and beautiful family.

I wish I could be there. Hugs to Dolly, Debbie and the entire family.

    Love,

    Darcy & Michael

  4. I worked with Cecil for many years at Georgia-Pacific. He was always committed to getting the job done well and he was never shy about telling us what he really thought needed to be done. His integrity and forthright approach had a significant impact on everyone he worked with and you always knew that he would be there for you “in a pinch”. It was a privilege knowing Cecil. May blessings be upon his loved ones!

Daughters have a special bond with their fathers. I was very close to my dad growing up and lost him many years ago. I know how sad you feel. I hope you take some comfort in all your good memories with him.
