Obituary

Cecil J. Urquhart, age 95, passed away peacefully July 16, 2012, in Bellingham, WA. He was born February 12, 1917, in Sceptre, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Robert and Jessie Urquhart, moving to Bellingham, WA when he was 6. He is survived by his loving wife, Katherine (Jones); his son Fred and wife Denise; son Ken and wife Claudia; grandchildren Jeremiah Holt, Chris Haven and Erika Haven, dear friend Mike Gillis and other relatives. He was preceded in death by brothers Mac and Don. Cec served one year in the U.S. Army and five years in the U.S. Coast Guard before joining the Bellingham Fire Department in 1946 and retiring as a Captain in 1971.

After retirement, Cec served on the Civil Service Commission for 5 years. Cec and Katherine enjoyed many years wintering in Yuma, AZ, where they enjoyed golfing, trips to Mexico, and dancing to live western music; and fishing for salmon on Quadra Island,B.C. He was an avid golfer who belonged to the Lakeway Golf Course and then the Bellingham Country Club. When he was a young man, he loved playing basketball and baseball. Cec built the family home on Nevada Street in 1949 where Cec and Katherine lived for 58 years. He enjoyed gardening, raising fruit, tomatoes and other vegetables, and dahlias. They also enjoyed many years at their summer home on Lake Samish.

The family would like to thank Dr. Dan Austin, and Elizabeth McCrank, PA-C, for their kind and expert care of Cec over the years. There will be no service at Cecs request. Memorial donations may be made to Whatcom Hospice
