Obituary

Catalina was born in Guanajuato, Mexico on November 20, 1937 to Pedro and Leonarda (Hernandez) Garcia and passed away peacefully on January 29, 2021 in Bellingham, WA surrounded by her loved ones. She was married to Juan Plata in June of 1962 and together they raised six children. In 1967, they moved to Washington and made their forever home in Ferndale, WA.

Catalina was the heart of her family and the glue that held them all together. She radiated love to everyone and was the epitome of grace and kindness. The amazing legacy that she and Juan left will live on in all who knew them. We will always thank God for our time with her and will keep those memories tucked in our hearts. We love you forever and always.

Juan Plata, her beloved husband of 54 years, preceded her in death in 2016.

Catalina is survived by her daughter Maria (Robert) Harvey and their children Robbie, Marisa and Jobe; son Juan (Bobbi) and their children Ashley (Jared) Padgett, Kyle and Katrina; daughter Idalia (Ron) Otter and their children Kassie (Max) Rylaarsdam, Kayla (Jake) Veliz and Kelsie; son Roger (Mary) and their children Emily (Curt) Humphreys, Jesse and Megan; son Ralph; daughter Cathy (Joe) Martinez and their children Abel, Abby and Jayden; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Due to COVID restrictions, a private family service was held at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale, WA.

  1. To our dear Plata Family-
You are closer in our hearts now more than ever. We are so sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. We have such special memories of her. Growing up across the street from you all was like having a part of our family close by. Mrs. Plata was always so kind to all of us in so many ways. She taught us what a REAL taco was ! She loved her friends like she loved her family. Always with open arms. We will always remember her as a beautiful, caring and strong lady whose family was truly her life.
We are always here for you anytime.
    Love you all-
    The Cook Family
