Obituary
Carolyn Ann (Elbie) Jones passed away peacefully at the age of 88 and went home to be with our Heavenly Father on November 14, 2021. She was born to Fred and Cleo Elbie in Kirkland, WA on August 30, 1933. After losing her parents at a young age, Carol spoke fondly of her Aunt Dehlia Sartor, of Port Orchard, WA, who helped raise her. She graduated from Bellevue High School in 1951 and attended Western Washington State College (WWU) for a short time until meeting Jim Jones from Pt. Roberts, WA on a blind date. Jim and Carol were married on Feb. 27, 1953 at the United Church of Christ (Congregational) in Blaine, WA. They were married 46 years until his passing in 1999. She lived at the same address in Blaine for 58 years.
Carolyn will be remembered for her generous gift of volunteerism and devotion to her family as well as her involvement in the Blaine community. She was a member of Blaine United Church of Christ (Congregational) where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of the Women’s Fellowship at the church. Carol was a Cub Scout den mother, a Girl Scout leader, and a Blue Bird Camp Fire Girls leader. She also helped found the Blaine Food Bank.
Carol was a wonderful homemaker and had many hobbies. She loved canning fruits and vegetables grown in her garden and baking delicious pies. She also loved crocheting afghans, baby clothes, and baby blankets. She always looked forward to her weekly painting group at the Blaine Senior Center. She was well known for her crocheted scrubbies and her Grinch light bulb Christmas ornaments.
She is survived by her son Steven (Linda) Jones of Custer, WA, daughters Lori (Jon) Rothenbuhler of Bellingham, WA, and Julie Burdick of Mt. Vernon, WA, 5 granddaughters, 2 step-grandchildren, 5 greatgrandchildren (with another on the way), 3 step-greatgrandchildren, and 1 sister, Mary Schnoor of Burlington, WA, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Jim, twin brother Robert Elbie, sister Virginia Vansteenkiste, brothers Henry (Hank) and Stan Elbie.

There will be a private graveside service at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale, WA. Time and date to be determined.

I am sorry to hear of Carolyn’s passing and send condolence to her beloved family. She was a wonderful person. I first met Carolyn in about 1977 while working at Thrifty Market in Blaine, and got to know her better through my mother in law, Janet, in later years. They were dear friends and confidants.. Carolyn was a kind, interesting and interested person. I loved and appreciated her wise, open minded and hearted conversation. She was so artistically talented and I will miss her hand knit dish rags and scrubbies. I’m lucky to have one of her Grinch light bulbs as well as a potion she concocted called “Black Salve”. My family considers this yummy smelling ointment to be the cure all for bumps, bruises, abrasions, bites, and burns (among other things). Rest peacefully Carolyn. You are loved and missed.

Jan was so kind and caring and always wanted to know how Carol was doing. Everyone should have a friend like Jan. She is a true friend and was a blessing for Carol.

My deepest sympathies to the family in the passing of Carol. I met Carol back in the early 90’s while attending the Blaine United Church of Christ (Congregational). Not only was it a joy and honor to know Carol on a personal level, and for those of us who did… Oh how did we enjoy her sense of humor and wit! I recall a special memory with Carol at church while I was teaching Sunday school and she shared her process of homemade root beer with all the children and upon completion we all enjoyed a root beer float party, it was the highlight of Sunday school that year. Another memory closer to home is when Carol painted a collection of pictograph rocks for me and picked up each one at my home in front of my young children explained the meanings behind each one. These rocks are displayed in my house to this day and are a cherished memory of a beautiful woman that is now in the Arms Of Jesus. Carol you were, are, and will always be Loved ~ Rest In Peace
