Obituary

Carol Mae Colpitts was born August 16, 1946 in Bellingham, Washington to Cecil and Dorothy (Loft) Colpitts. She passed away January 8, 2017 in Lynnwood. She attended Sunnyland Elementary School, Whatcom Junior High, and graduated from Bellingham High School in 1964 with honors.

She moved to Seattle and began a 32-year career with the U.S. Government. The first five years were with the Supervisor of Shipbuilding, U.S. Navy; the next two-and-a-half years were with the Defense Supply Agency; and the following 25 years were with the Small Business Administration. She worked passionately in the SBA’s Minority Enterprise Division as a Contract Specialist/Negotiator in the Seattle Regional Office for seven years, in the Portland, Oregon District Office for seven years, and then returned to the Seattle Regional Office in 1985. After two years as a Senior Contract Specialist, Carol was promoted to the position of Assistant Regional Administrator for both the Minority Enterprise and Procurement Divisions, responsible for Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska. Over the years, Carol served on numerous task forces in SBA’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. She retired in 1996.

After retirement, Carol honed her creative side by making greeting cards for friends and family. She loved traveling, photography and making family scrapbooks. She enjoyed sharing her vacation condos with family and friends.

Carol was active in the Unity Church of Bellingham, Seattle Unity Church, Unity in Portland where she served on the Board as Treasurer. She was also involved with the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees, where she served as Treasurer and Co-President.

Carol was a kind and gentle woman who always had a heart and hearth for those who needed her. She will live in our hearts for all time.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Dan. She leaves many wonderful cousins and a multitude of friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Unity Church of Bellingham, 1095 Telegraph Road, Bellingham, Washington on 5/6/17 at 2pm.
