  1. Candy was a remarkable women who always was protective and helpful of he husband Greg. I always enjoyed her humor and laugh it was refreshing and bubbly.
At the NW Miners Rally she pitched in and always involved with good questions and insight. She understood the problems our community faced and one of the best things she brought to the table certain realistic perspective….best way to say “unvarnished”.

I always loved her one line quip that was often directed at some bureaucratic department personality which was devastating comment on there conduct.

Candy will be missed and for her infectious laugh and humor will always bring a smile to my face, Candy I know your in a good place because your life was uplifting to many around you and I was very privileged to know her.

    Peace be with your family

  2. Candy Christensen 70, passed away March 1, 2017

She was born in Madison, Wisconsin to Dr. Vernon Coverstone and Margaret (Springer) Coverstone, RN.

Her father was a MD returning from his 2nd tour following Patton through North Africa. The story was Candy could not wait to be born, on the trip to Grants Pass, so they had to stop for a few days in Madison.

Candy was the little sister to Peggy Vencill and Ann Davis, both deceased.

She is survived by husband Greg, son Ryan and daughter Rachel, daughter-in-law Kristi, two wonderful granddaughters, Grace and Maddie, all of Bellingham. Also, 3 nieces and 1 nephew.

In her youth, she lived on the Rogue River. Summers were spent in a yellow raft on the river, sometimes sleeping overnight in the raft on the water.

After her mother passed away in 1959, she lived in Longview, WA., graduating from Mark Morris High School. She formed a lifelong friendship there with Christine Conzatti.

After graduation, she moved to Des Moines, WA. and worked at several jobs: Burlington Northern, Boeing, and Pacific NW Bell, where she met her future husband.

She and Greg were married Sept 5, 1970 in Des Moines.

After a short honeymoon in Rockport (of all places), they settled into married life in Bellingham.

Candy was a wonderful mother. She loved her children, giving them morals and guidance that are with them to this day. She taught them work ethics at a young age by accompanying them to the strawberry fields as a checker.

When Greg retired in 1997, they travelled extensively over the western US. Alaska to Mexico. Eventually, they purchased property in Arizona, where they made new friends and enjoyed the warm weather. She was very active in genealogy, especially the Bouse Genies.

Candy and Greg were energetic gold miners. They said they had ‘dipped a pan’ in most western states, including Alaska. They were involved in creating legislation protecting mining. Candy wore several nuggets they had found.

Candy passed away in Bellingham Hospice House after a long treatment for breast cancer. Family was at her side. Her final words were “I’m not afraid of anything”.
She was interred at Greenacres in Ferndale. The family participated in a ‘green’ burial, as she wished.

    We will miss you sweetheart.
