Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our much-loved father and grandfather, Calvin Bryan Hanson. Born in Long Beach California on September 22nd, 1925, he passed away peacefully on May 10th, 2013 at Bellingham Washington, surrounded by his family. He is survived by Muriel, his wife of sixty-five years, by his children, Brenda, Kent, and Pamela, by his grandchildren Lindsay, Taylor, Brianne, Tyler, and Chase, and by his great grandchildren Ellie, Gwenyth, and Calvin. Cal devoted his life to his Christian ministry and spent his early adult years with his young family as a missionary in Japan. In 1964, he became the founding president of Trinity Western University in Langley, British Columbia, and nurtured the fledging institution for the following twelve years before going on to teach at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield Illinois. Cal never quite managed to retire, and will be remembered as a man who worked tirelessly and travelled widely to bring his message of comfort and hope to as many people as he could reach. He drew great pleasure from bow hunting, travelling, and playing tennis with his grandsons. He laughed easily and enjoyed unusual cuisine. Above all, however, he loved his family. He will be dearly missed by his family and his many friends, neighbors, and colleagues.

  1. Muriel and family; We just heard of Cal’s passing yesterday. We want to express our sincere condolensences to you and the family. We will always remember Cal as a great man of God when you shared a year of your lives with us in Kearney. It was our privilege to get to know you and sit under Cal’s teaching. Cal was an inspiration for those of us who follow. God bless you. Dave and Cindy Malone

  2. My condolences to Bryan’s family and friends. I hope you can find comfort and hope in the words recorded for us in Revelation 21:4 where it says “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away”. What a wonderful hope God gives to his people, and unlike the promises of men his are reliable and will come about. I am truly sorry for your loss.
