  1. I knew your dad and grandpa only as Poe. I moved into Calmor Cove one year ago and have been slowly fixing up a lot that I subsequently found out he originally developed. He had a shed down here – guess what it was made of? (Answer: there is only one material….cedar!) Since I’ve lived here, he has made a point of being kind, friendly, and helpful but always without expecting anything in return and without intruding. That’s a rare combination here, and he was special that way.
We’ve talked about faith several times and his strong faith and beliefs. Talking to him was always an uplifting and positive experience. It was as if he had radar and could tell when you needed a king word.
Several weeks ago he walked down here and sat and talked for the better part of an hour. He’d never done that before. I wonder if he was coming to say goodbye to the lot. And me. In any case, Poe touched the lives of more people than I’m sure you will ever know. In a short time, he certainly touched my life. He will be dearly missed and often celebrated for the grace with which he lived.
My prayers are with all of you and as you go through this initial process of organizing things and saying goodbye, I hope there are lots of reminders of good or funny moments that make you laugh and remind you how lucky we all have been to know him. You all most of all.
Love, Karen, and Airie the dog

  2. Firstly…I hope that you really have met the Lord, and are now continuing the work with him. You were so involved in his work before you passed, and I loved hearing your testimony many times. To those who were in his church and his bible study class, he became whole thru you all…and you deserve to be thanked for that, so thank you.Secondly…I thank you for openly accepting me, and without skipping a beat, you embraced a friendship with me when we reunited. I will remember our talks and shared ability to be more intellectual when having a conversation. I read another “condolence” on here, and it said that you were able to listen when that someone just wanted to be heard…I also am able to be there for others as a good listener…And it’s just a special thing to see that we shared these qualities.
Please visit me and your welcome to find me in my dreams as well… I love you :-)

    Ps
“A healthy family,a healthy country, a healthy world-all grow outward from a single superior person” -I ching
This quote accurately depicts many families, many work scenarios, groups of friends, countries, and obviously many church communities…and I think it includes the many “communities” of people that “grew outward” from your just bein there, doin your thing.

  3. I will miss Poe very much. We had some very good times. Poe was a very spiritual man and often came over and shared his faith and hope with me. I am sure he is with God and saying see Mary-Ann it is true and I made it. To his family I know he loved you all very much and spoke all about you during many of our visits together.
Peace be with all of you!

  4. So sorry to hear about Poe’s passing. He was a wonderful neighbor. He will be greatly missed. Praying for God’s comforting arms surround you during this diffcult time. But know this there is hope in our Lord that we will see him again. As hard as it is to say good-bye what a great thing to know this is just temporary good-bye. We rejoice he is with the Lord. Peace and comfort. Steve and Melanee Schwind and family

    Dear Poe and Family,
I was honored to meet Poe just 10 days before he went to be with the Lord. I was on vacation in Washington state (I’m from Georgia) staying at my aunts (Maryann) home in his community and was playing and singing worship music at her house as I felt led to go and pray with Poe. I had heard from my aunt that he had not been doing very well so me and my mom went over to meet him. As we began to talk, I asked him if he had anything he needed prayer for. He said he was sick with cancer but that he had family coming up from the lake and he didn’t think it was the best time for prayer. About that time, his daughter and granddaughter walked up and we continued on our walk around the community. Later that night, Poe called my aunt and asked if we could come back down to his house. My mom and I went down to his house and we talked with him about God and realized how much we had in common with each other. We then heard a knock at the door and it was one of his neighbors, Jenny. She said, “Can I come in?” He said, “Come on in, we’re talking about the Lord.” He continued and said “If God sent two people all the way from Georgia to come and pray for me, I might as well let them.” It was so amazing to pray for the healing of his body. You could see the joy in his face. He said “I wish I could have met y’all in the beginning of your trip. It’s to bad that y’all are leaving tomorrow.” I went to meet with him the next day and gave him one of my favorite books called “Jesus is_____” to read. He told me that he had just gotten back from his bible study. They had the opportunity to share what had been going on their lives and if anyone of them needed prayer. He told me that he told the group at his bible study that he was battling cancer and that we had come and prayed with him at his home. He said that they anointed him with oil and they all prayed for him. It is was so amazing to see that God was speaking to him and showing him that he was not alone. I believe that we were sent to his house to show him that there were others standing with him through all of it. It really blessed me to be able to meet Poe and to speak into his life and reaffirm that God would be with him through all of it. Meeting Poe also showed me that he is now with God. That he is now freed from his sickness and is at peace with the father. God saw that he needed rest. It was so amazing to me to see how Poe daily walked in his new life in Christ. Poe left his old life at the cross and found his new life in Christ. As it says in 2 Timothy 4:7, Poe fought the good fight, he finished the race, and he kept the faith. He has now received the crown of righteousness. Although he may no longer reside in his trailer community on Lake Samish, he has found his new home. God made him an eternal home so that he could dwell in it forever. I am so happy for you Poe. You fought til the end. I can’t wait to continue our friendship in heaven. Until then I’ll be fighting for the lost souls of the earth so that they to can inherit the great home in which you are now living. I will continue to play the Bethel Music songs you loved. To your family, this man was a man of Christ. A man who firmly believed where he was going when he faced death and who knew who was going to be greeting him when arrived in heaven. Thank you Poe for allowing us to pray with you and I will always remember what a fighter and believer in Christ you were on this earth. #seeyaupyonder
