Obituary
Three weeks prior to her 93rd birthday, Beverly Ann Schwisow, of Ferndale, WA, went home to be with the Lord, on March 15, 2025, in Mount Vernon, WA.
Beverly was born in Bellingham to Bill Irwin and Olga (Melseth) Irwin, on April 4, 1932. She was the oldest of two children. Bev lived on Victor Street until her early teen years when the family moved to the Paradise Road in Ferndale. After a couple of years there, the Irwins moved to the farm on Mountain View Road, which remained the family home for more than forty years. Bev developed a love of music, learning to play the piano and then the clarinet in the high school band. She continued to play the piano throughout much of her life.
Beverly waitressed at Johnson’s Fine Foods in Ferndale. As a sophomore at Ferndale High School, Beverly met a Senior, named Stan, who was fairly new to town after moving from Grandview, WA. The relationship grew and Bev and Stan were married March 7, 1953, at the United Church in Ferndale. Stan’s service with the Air Force took them to Wichita Falls, Texas, where they welcomed their firstborn, Jim, in 1954. In 1955, after completing their commitment with the Air Force, they returned to Ferndale. Stan took a job with Mobil Oil Corporation, Cherry Point and they purchased the farm on Church Road.
Stan and Bev welcomed 3 more boys; Gary in 1955, jay in 1958 and Scot in 1962. Bev excelled at being a doting mother and keeping her boys and home clean and orderly. After focusing on raising her sons, Bev went to work part time as an office aid at Central Elementary School. As a young family, Stan and Bev fostered a love in their boys for Skiing Mt. Baker and campfires and waterskiing at their property on Birch Bay. They were always very supportive of their children and grandchildren as they participated in music performances and sporting events.
After retirement, Stan and Bev met countless friends as they traveled to many countries around the world during dozens of trips with Tulip Tours. Stan and Bev also purchased a fifth wheel and spent two decades traveling the Western United States. Stan and Bev were faithful members of Triumph Lutheran Church for more than 6 decades, making many lifelong friends and serving the congregation in various ways over the many years.
Beverly is survived by her husband of 72 years, William Stanley Schwisow (Stan), brother Jim (Ruth) Irwin, sons Jim (Mary) of Ferndale, Gary (Teresa) of Melba, ID, Jay (Debbie) of Kennewick, WA, and Scot (Bonnie) of Lynden, WA. Very sorry for your loss. Jay was my best friend in school. I remember going to his mom and dads house and meeting his parents.
