Obituary

Betty Mae Erickson passed away on July 24, 2023 in her home in Bellingham at age 92. She was born December 21^st, 1930 to parents Caroline and Alva Fisher in Sumas WA.

Betty grew up and spent her entire life in Whatcom County, graduating from Ferndale high school in 1948. She then began working as a waitress at The DownTowner. In 1950 she married her husband Marlin Erickson, whom she was with until his death in 2022. They had three children together, and Betty became a homemaker caring for her family.

Betty was a long-time member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, and a 70+ years member of the North Bellingham Grange. She loved spending time at the family cabin, and fishing in the lake. She was a fan of Mariners baseball, and also loved watching her grandchildren’s sporting events. Betty also loved family pinochle party nights, gardening, and baking.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents Caroline and Alva, her siblings Helen Wifler, Irene Fisher, and Fred Fisher, and son in-laws Gregg Nelson and Mike Melland.

She is survived by her three children, Steve Erickson(Kathy), Greg Erickson(Maria), and Pam Melland. Betty will also be remembered by 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

We will greatly miss her sense of humor and joy for life.
