Obituary

Betty Friedl was born in Port Townsend, WA to Robert and Mildred (Enfield) Flynn on September 5, 1933 and passed away in Bellingham, WA on May 2, 2021.

After graduation from Port Townsend High School she and Glen Friedl were married in Yuma, AZ on June 20, 1953. She worked as a bank bookkeeper then alongside her husband in the insurance business in Bellingham. After having five children, she became a homemaker. Betty had a feisty attitude and a wonderful sense of humor. She loved dancing, singing, playing games, exercising at the Bellingham Athletic Club, and lunching with friends. Family was very important to Betty. She enjoyed all time spent with loved ones, celebrating birthdays and traveling to see daughter, Kim, in Colorado. A lover of travel, Betty and Glen toured throughout Europe, enjoying time in Italy and Croatia. They also spent 50+ years as experienced boaters. A treasured memory is dancing at Maragoni Ballroom on Lake Pier in Oceanside, CA. Her family will miss her strong will and witty sense of humor.

She is predeceased by her parents; brother, Billy Flynn; and sister, Patsy Zajac.

Survivors include her husband, Glen Friedl; children, Mark Friedl, Jeff Friedl, Sandy Sears, Gary Friedl, and Kim Zapf; sister, Teri Flynn; brother-in-law, Doug Friedl; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

    Dear Glen and family, I am so sorry to hear about Betty. I love Glen and Betty so much, and have enjoyed all of the travels we have had together! My thoughts are with you Glen. I know what you are going through. I love you and your family so much. Betty died six years to the day that Bill had died. Take care and let’s keep in touch. Love you all!

  2. To Betty’s family: I am so sorry to read of Betty’s passing. She was always an added joy to my day when we would be in the same gym class at BAC. She would be especially happy when Kim came to visit and work out with her. I have missed her and will continue to keep her in my thoughts. I am blessed to have been able to know her. My condolences to all of you. Betty was a special fun lady!

  5. Was very saddened to learn that Betty has passed. I always remember our adventures to Birch Bay when we were kids, backyard BBQ’s at your home or ours, Girl’s day lunches and all the other things our families did together. My thoughts and prayers are with Glen and the whole family.
