Obituary
Beatrice Ann (Loft) Barber passed away peacefully of natural causes on April 13th, 2020 in Blaine, WA. Bea was born on June 19th, 1931 to Harry & LaFern (Johnston) Loft, in Oakland, CA. The family moved to Bellingham when she was 6 months old. It is said she slept the entire length of the car trip, a trait she continued throughout her life. Bea graduated from Bellingham High School as Valedictorian at the age of 16 and went to work at the Sears Roebuck store on Cornwall Avenue in Bellingham for many years, where she made many lifelong friends. Bea married Joe Barber in 1958 and moved to Blaine to raise their family. She worked for the City of Blaine for many years and retired as the City Treasurer in 1991. Bea was pre-deceased by her husband Joe and sister Anita Frazier. She is survived by her children, Pat Barber, Matthew Barber, and Julia (Cory) Swinburnson, and grandchildren Bree McWilliam, Rachel McWilliam and Isabella Zane, as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Stafholt Good Samaritan facility in Blaine for their compassionate and loving care of our mother for the past two years. Bea will be inurned at the Blaine Cemetery with a private family service. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Stafholt Good Samaritan facility, or the Blaine Food Bank. I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. She was a wonderful lady. I’m so glad that I got to know her when she worked at the City Hall. The wonderful memories you have will help you to get through the sadness.

To the Family of Joe & Bea Barber,
One of the first people I met when I moved to beautiful Blaine was Bea Barber. I built and opened a small restaurant at 825 Peace Portal Dr. Therefore I was constantly going to City Hall for something or another. Bea was always so gracious and helpful as we were building the restaurant. We always joked with each other and she was very humorous with me and we had a lot of laughs. I don’t remember all the reasons I was running to City Hall, but my little 2 year old was with me every time ,so she got to know the two of us quite well. My 2 year old is now 40. It’s sad when a dear friend passes away, but we will always cherish the good memories of her forever. I for one have wonderful memories of Bea Barber and even of Joe Barber. The two of them were extremely nice to my family. I will always fondly remember them.
