Obituary

Barbara Mae Johnson

Barbara Mae Johnson passed away on November 11, 2012 at the age of 87 years.

She was born October 10th, 1925 in Seattle, WA the daughter of Louis & Juanita LaPlant. Barbara grew up in the Skagit Valley and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1943. She met Nels Albert Johnson when she was 14 at Sedro-Woolley High School. They were the love of each others lives until death.

After WWII, Nels and Barbara were married on July 5, 1946 in Portland Oregon.

From 1946 to 1992, Nels and Barb lived in Seattle on 14th Avenue NW in Ballard. The home was purchased on the GI Bill. Barbara was an elementary school secretary at John Rogers Elementary for over 30 years and was an all around helpmate to everyone. After retirement, Nels and Barbara liked to take small trips and took one big trip to Europe. Barbara was an avid gardener and her yard was voted the most beautiful by her Garden Club & others on many occasions. Nels kept the back area of the site for his veges, fruit trees and berries. But the remainder was a lush color jungle of almost any kind of flower you may want to see. Her favorite time of day in the warm months was 5am to be in her flower beds weeding. In 1992 they built a new home in Sedro-Woolley and lived there for many years.

Barbara is survived by two daughters, Diane Johnson of Mount Vernon and Linda Johnson of Bellingham, Grandsons Loren Bernhardt of Edmonds and Andrew Bernhardt of Seattle, two great grandchildren, Micah Dare-Bernhardt and Lily Dare-Bernhardt of Sunbury, Australia; sister Marcia Wichelmann of Fossil, Oregon; sisters in law June Johnson and Lois McPherson of Oak Harbor & numerous nieces and nephews. To the loving Daughters,Family & Friends may I offer my sympathy in the painful loss of your dearly loved Barbara. She lived a beautiful life with all the Flowers & Sunshine in it, but mostly those who knew and loved her. Hopefully you will find a measure of comfort & peace in the following Bible Verses: Isaiah25:8 “HE WILL ACTUALLY SWALLOW UP DEATH FOREVER ,AND THE SOVEREIGN LORD JEHOVAH WILL CERTAINLY WIPE THE TEARS FROM ALL FACES.”
