Obituary
August “Gus Gus” Frances Martin Jr. was born June 14th, 1983, and passed away surrounded by his ancestors on May 10th, 2025. He was born in Bellingham, Washington to August “Auggie” Martin Sr and Margaret “Marge” (Warbus) Phair and was the youngest to two brothers and one sister.
Gus made it all the way to 11th grade at Lummi Nation School. He spent his grade school and middle school years at Ferndale and later transferred to Lummi. He later got his GED in 2013. Gussy was also a lifelong fisherman, crabber, clam digger, and hunter. From an early age Gus had the eye for hunting, a teaching passed on from his father. He also loved being a mechanic for his community and his family.
In his free time Gus loved spending time with his many family members and children. Whether it was riding bikes with his children or going to the beach with family. He also liked playing board games and card games with his children, but he loved cheating when they played even more
August is survived by his children: Lena Alice Margie Martin Williams, August Frances Martin III, and Ryden Scott Martin; siblings: Ralph Long (Kelly), William “Lumpy” Phair and Bambi Solomon (Heather); aunts: Hope Martin, Emmeline Martin, Martine Jefferson, Roberta Hall (Howard), Yvonne Thomas; uncles: Micheal Thomas, George (Julie) Thomas, Chad Ward.
He was proceeded in death by August & Margaret (Warbus) Phair: grandparents; Melvin & LaVerne (Edward’s) Warbus and Melvin Warbus: aunts & uncles; Wesley Martin, Elizabeth Martin, Neil Martin, Gregory Martin, Faith Martin, Charity Martin, Cassandra Garipee, Coleen Jameson, Anna Maria Thomas, and Raynette Hall.
Prayer service at Wexliem Community Building, Lummi Nation, at 6pm on Thursday May 15, 2025.
