Obituary

Anita Ann Gilmer, born on July 16, 1954, passed away peacefully on March 03, 2025, at the age of 70. A loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Anita’s life was marked by her deep love for family, her independent spirit, and her fierce competitiveness.

A 1975 graduate of Ferndale High School, Anita was known for her caring nature, her strong sense of self, and her determination to live life on her own terms. Her independent spirit was evident in everything she did, from her passion for mowing the yard to her hobbies of knitting, crocheting, and fishing. She enjoyed the simple joys of life, including roller skating and playing video games, but above all, she cherished the time spent with her loved ones.

Anita’s son, Terry Gilmer, recalls with fondness some of his favorite memories of her. He’ll forever treasure the moments they shared, whether it was watching her mow the yard, helping her decorate the Christmas tree, playing catch with a baseball, or watching her laugh while playing with her beloved dog. Above all, he remembers how much she adored spending time with her grandchildren—Sephtis, Max, Brielle, and Devlin—and how deeply she loved being a part of their lives.

Anita will be remembered as a woman of conviction, who stood firm in her beliefs and always spoke her mind. Her strength, stubbornness, and determination were traits that defined her, and her competitive nature inspired those around her to always give their best. But what will be most remembered about Anita is her deep love for her family and her desire to feel important in their lives. She may have been stubborn, but she was also fiercely devoted to those she loved.

She is survived by her son Terry Gilmer, daughter-in-law Jessica Bridges, and her grandchildren Sephtis Bridges, Max Bridges, Brielle Bridges, and Devlin Gilmer. She is also survived by her sisters, Elaine Salmonson and Penelope Johnson. Anita was preceded in death by her father Eugene Gilmer, mother Alma Gilmer, sister Nancy Walker, brother-in-law Jack Walker, and brother-in-law Arnie Salmonson.

Anita will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, as they carry forward the lessons of love, resilience, and the importance of family she taught them.

Rest in peace, Anita. You will always be loved and remembered.
