Obituary

Amy Melinda Ogmundson, age 26, passed from this world Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at her home in Ferndale. She was born May 6, 1986 in Bellingham. Amy attended Ferndale schools, playing on the athletic fields, making music with the band, singing on stage, and graduating from Ferndale High School in 2004. Later that same year Amy began a valiant battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma that she beat back twice before succumbing.
Amy was a curious and caring youngster who loved all God’s creatures. She befriended and mothered mammals and reptiles of all types. As she grew older Amy found a passion for helping children. She nurtured kids of all ages as if they were her very own with a fun and creative spirit that drew them to her. Amy especially treasured her time with Tate and Ian Freeman.
Amy was gifted with a beautiful voice that she shared with many people before and during her illness. She sang her own compositions in a benefit concert at Benaroya Hall for Children’s Hospital just one month after completing chemotherapy and radiation treatments. She performed at benefits in Key Arena as well as Safeco Field, where she sang our National Anthem for a Mariners game. Amy gained certification in fitness training and worked with and encouraged dozens of people to live a healthier life. Amy will be missed for all these things and for her infectious smile and gentle, compassionate spirit.
Amy is survived by parents Robin and Bob Ogmundson, her sister Sarah (Forest Wilson), several uncles, aunts and cousins, and dear friend David Shoup. She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents Fred and Edith Ogmundson and Robert and Betty Everett, all of Ferndale.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 15 at 2 PM. at Zion Lutheran Church, 7215 Valley View Road, Ferndale. Service to be led by Rev. Robert Johnson, Jennifer Johnson, and Deaconess April Boyden. A reception is to follow. Everyone is invited to wear pink, Amy’s favorite color.

  1. Amy, Sarah, Bob & Robin- Like you, we will miss Amy every day. We remember when Amy was herself an active baby, then a busy toddler, then an energetic child, then an athletic, talented high school student, then a beautiful young woman who nurtured Tate and Ian. She will remain forever a wonderful role model of compassion, caring and strength. She always showed grace under trying circumstances. We were all unbelievably fortunate to have had her in our lives.

  2. Dear Robin, Bob, and Sarah – I am so sorry to hear about Amy’s death. I am so sorry to be so far away. I dearly wish we could be at Zion to share the memorial service with you and offer our support in this most terrible of times. Please know you are in our hearts, in our prayers, and we look forward to the day we can be with you in person again. Wishing you strength and peace – Aimee, Homero, Hope and Paloma.

  3. Hugs to my family…..Bob, Robin, Sarah and Forrest, as we celebrate Amy’s life….I’m sad that I won’t be able to join you this weekend but will be there in thought and prayer. Amy will continue to inspire us all. Love to everyone.
