Obituary

Amy Melinda Ogmundson, age 26, passed from this world Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at her home in Ferndale. She was born May 6, 1986 in Bellingham. Amy attended Ferndale schools, playing on the athletic fields, making music with the band, singing on stage, and graduating from Ferndale High School in 2004. Later that same year Amy began a valiant battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma that she beat back twice before succumbing.
Amy was a curious and caring youngster who loved all God’s creatures. She befriended and mothered mammals and reptiles of all types. As she grew older Amy found a passion for helping children. She nurtured kids of all ages as if they were her very own with a fun and creative spirit that drew them to her. Amy especially treasured her time with Tate and Ian Freeman.
Amy was gifted with a beautiful voice that she shared with many people before and during her illness. She sang her own compositions in a benefit concert at Benaroya Hall for Children’s Hospital just one month after completing chemotherapy and radiation treatments. She performed at benefits in Key Arena as well as Safeco Field, where she sang our National Anthem for a Mariners game. Amy gained certification in fitness training and worked with and encouraged dozens of people to live a healthier life. Amy will be missed for all these things and for her infectious smile and gentle, compassionate spirit.
Amy is survived by parents Robin and Bob Ogmundson, her sister Sarah (Forest Wilson), several uncles, aunts and cousins, and dear friend David Shoup. She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents Fred and Edith Ogmundson and Robert and Betty Everett, all of Ferndale.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 15 at 2 PM. at Zion Lutheran Church, 7215 Valley View Road, Ferndale. Service to be led by Rev. Robert Johnson, Jennifer Johnson, and Deaconess April Boyden. A reception is to follow. Everyone is invited to wear pink, Amy’s favorite color.

  1. Dear Robin, Bob, Sarah, Forest and all that love and miss Amy, I also am sad I am not able to come home to offer my support and share memories with you all. I have so many memories of Amy, Sarah and Emily having play dates as little girls. We shared camping trips to Eastern Washington and other fun places! Emily became more like a cousin and the love we all shared will keep Amy alive in spirit always. Robin, You and I were always very good friends through out high school and even though our lives have gone different roads I still love you very much and my heart aches that you and Bob are having to say good bye to Amy way too soon. My prayer is that you and the whole family will find comfort in the knowlege that love never goes away. It helps me to know that Amy is now a precious Angel and safe in God’s care. Love always, Cathy and Gord

Robin + Bob- My heart breaks for your loss. It is such a tragedy to have to say good bye to our children instead of the other way around. The circle of life can be hard to understand. You all lead just a powerful fight. Amy is now in God’s arms and at peace. My thoughts are with you both. Jody Holm

  3. We we’re sorry to hear of Amy’s passing. I met Amy when I went to Curves, and we we’re neighbors when she lived in the little house on Aldergrove. Amy will be missed by all who knew her. Jennie & Ron Caddell

  4. Dearest Amy, you treated me not like a friend, but a sister. You showed me how to deal with my PTSD in a way I could understand. You were a great singer,Guitarist,Pianist, and so many others. You were very caring towards animals and people, I was very lucky to know you. I love you sissy.
