Obituary

With profound sadness, yet deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we share the passing of Alice Crews at the remarkable age of 102. Alice passed away, entering the presence of her Lord and Savior with the same grace, humility, humor, and generosity that defined her long and fulfilling life.

Born on January 26, 1922, to Jake and Hulda Kupp, Alice spent her early years in the Swiss farming community of Columbus, Nebraska with her older brother Jake. After graduating from high school, she moved with her family to Omaha, where she worked at the University of Nebraska School of Medicine by day and attended secretarial school at night.

Alice’s journey took her to Japan for three years before she returned to the States, eventually settling in Richland, WA. It was there she met her husband, Bill Lehnoff. Together, they moved to Anacortes, WA, before making Birch Bay their final home. Alice spent many years as the executive secretary to the president of Whatcom Community College, where she would eventually retire. She and Bill shared many joyful years before his passing.

Later in life, Alice found love once again with her second husband, Kenneth Crews, who brought new energy, adventure, and companionship into her life.

Through all of life’s changes, one thing remained unwavering: Alice’s faith in God. She was not only devoted to her faith but also to her church, friends, and family. As an active member of Chuckanut Baptist Church, Alice spent much of her free time volunteering, working in the office, and warmly welcoming anyone who entered through the church’s doors. Her spirit of kindness was felt by everyone she met.

Alice found joy in the simple pleasures – spending time with family, reading scripture, and helping those around her. She was a pillar of strength, embodying grace and always reminding others of the importance of love, gratitude, and faith.

Her life was a testament to God’s love, and her legacy will live on in the steadfast faith and nurturing spirit she shared with everyone she knew. Alice touched countless lives, and her memory will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Angus (Bill) Lehnhoff, 2nd husband Kenneth L. Crews, brother Jacob O Kupp and wife Bernice G Kupp.

Alice is survived by her stepchildren: Linda Grunhurd (Dave), Ken Crews (Patty); grandchildren:  Nicole Nichols (Brett), Krista Hummel (Ben), BreeAnne Grunhurd (Greg), Julie Regalado (Brian), Kyle Crews, and eleven great grandchildren.

Alice is also survived by her four nephews: Jake Kupp (Carla, Larry Kupp (Bonnie), Andy Kupp (Nancy, Jeff Kupp (Ruth) along with many great nieces and nephews.
