Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Alfred Saab, Jr., a beloved husband, Dad, grandpa, and great grandpa, on September 26, 2024. Al was born on September 8, 1943, in Muskogee, OK and moved to Ferndale with his family when he was twelve. After high school, he attended college for two years and while considering where to go next, was drafted into the Army from 1964-1966. He returned home and married his love, Donna Boykin, in December of 1967.

Al was never one to sit still. He spent countless weekends at Mt Baker as a volunteer on the ski patrol for 25 years. He served as a volunteer firefighter for over 30 years with WCFD #7. When he retired from firefighting, he continued his commitment to the community by serving 20 years as a Fire Commissioner. As a longtime resident of Ferndale and a football enthusiast, he joined up with several other dedicated footballers and started the midget football program in 1973.

After retiring from Intalco in 1998, Donna and Al started traveling south for the winter and after some exploration around Arizona, found their forever winter home in Parker, right on the Colorado River. They spent the next 24 winters there in “site 6”, enjoying the sunshine, great golf, and an amazing group of friends. Back at home, Al spent his time enjoying his family, friends and working around the lane. There was rarely a morning where you did not see him walking their beloved pups, Piper and Maxi around the Saab Compound, stopping to visit if anyone was home. Al’s commitment to his family was all encompassing and never ending.

Al is survived by his loving wife, Donna, his children, Michelle (Tia), Jerrod (Michelle), his grandchildren, Jessica, Trystan, Tucker, Arianna & Sawyer and his great-granddaughter, Charlee; sister Janell Erickson (Carl), brothers Joe Saab and Dennis Saab (Cindi), and numerous nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Alfred Saab, Sr.; pop, Del Livermore; mom, Connie Livermore; brother, Conny Saab.

A celebration of Al’s life will be held on October 27th at the Pioneer Pavilion at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the WCFD #7 (payable to Ferndale Volunteer Firefighters Association, 2020 Washington St.) or the Ferndale Football program (FHS, PO Box 428, Attn ASB).
