Obituary

Aleen Louise Cone, 96, passed away peacefully March 29, 2023 in Bellingham.  She is survived by daughters Cindy Cone and Alison Cone, grandson Justin Cone (Carol), great grandchildren Russell and Jordan Cone, special niece Paula Bonallo (Dan), and daughter in law Carol Pavlic (Alan).  She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Cleary Cone, son Edward Cone, sister Delores Francois, and parents Earl and Vivian Ferguson.

She was born in Bellingham and attended Sunnyland Elementary School, where she met the first of many lifelong friends.  Her family moved to Chehalis where she graduated from Chehalis High School.  She attended Washington State University until she married the love of her life in 1947. She worked for a time in Seattle while Cleary attended law school.  They made their home in Ellensburg where she was very involved in community activities. She was always a gracious hostess, a fabulous cook, and was a kind, loving, and generous friend to many.  Many summers were spent in Birch Bay at the family cabin, spending countless hours agate hunting and sunbathing with her sister Delores.  Many years in retirement were spent back on the beach at Sandy Point before moving to the Cordata Park Place neighborhood where she lived until she passed away.  She stayed active and engaged with the many new friends she made there and was so grateful for their friendship, kindness, and support.

Aleen was a rabid fan of the WSU Cougars, the Seattle Seahawks and the Mariners.  She loved and spoiled her pets so much that many of her friends suggested that if they were ever reincarnated, they wanted to come back as one of her pets.  She had style and always looked fabulous, never leaving the house without full makeup, even to take out the trash.  Her friends and family describe her as kind, loving, generous, caring, humorous, gracious, sweet, competitive, interested and interesting, and always positive.  Her bright light will be missed, but we take comfort that she and Cleary can resume their date nights together.

Memorials may be made to the Chuckanut Feline Center, 1214 Dupont Street, Bellingham, WA 98225

  1. Dear cousins Cindy and Alison, I am saddened to hear of your mother’s passing, while at the same time I rejoice that she lived so many years. How very well i remember those happy summers at Birch Bay, when we were kids. (If either of you ever figure out where the years have gone since then, please – let me know.) I pray the the Lord bless and comfort you and your families at this time. With fondest regards and love, your cousin, Dennis Gustafson.
